Seminars held on freshwater management issues

During August several seminars in various habitat groups were held. Two of them  were dedicated to freshwater habitats and were held on 16th and 17th of August in Rezekne municipality, near one of the biggest lakes in Latvia- Razna and on the very beginning of August in Salacgrīva (northern part of Latvia, Vidzeme region).

For these days, representatives of Nature Protection Board and regional municipalities and other stakeholders involved in management activities gathered for an aim to discuss the theoretical and practical aspects of freshwater habitat management, as well as to get acquainted with habitat management practices, which were approbated in project "NAT-Programme” developing habitat protection and management guidelines.

The seminar which was held on 2 and 3rd of August, took place in Salacgriva district. It brought together about 30 participants. The seminar was affected by two major themes - theoretical aspects of freshwater management compiled in management guidelines and practical aspects to be carried out to maintain favorable habitat status in riverways which runs through the woods. Second day of seminar contained valuable discussion with landowner and management organiser near river Svētupe. Participants of the seminar put helping hands together to maintain river banks - and removed fallen tree logs and other debris from river to help streams run rapidly.
