Seminar on natural grassland management and restoration in Ķemeri
Interested parties in natural grassland management and restoration gathered in Kemeri National Park on 29th of October, 2015. Event was organised by project “NAT PROGRAMME” team and was attended by more than 40 persons from non-governmental organizations, representatives of state institutions, farmers and grassland managers.

Aim of the meeting was to get acquainted with the best grassland maintenance and renewal methods incorporated in emerging Grassland Management Guidelines, as well as get familiar with linking between Management Guidelines and National agricultural policy and EU payment arrangements.
Introduction part of meeting was outdoors. Participants visited Dunduri meadows, pastures of large herbivores – konik horses and Heck cattle, where discussed aspects of natural grassland diversity, restoration principles and ways of maintenance.
In National park administrative centre “Meža māja” discussion continued. Beside topics about landscaping principles and key management in wooded grassland habitats, spokeswoman of Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development Support Department, Gunta Bāra shared vision of agriculture sector - BVG (biologically valuable grasslands) maintenance and its interrelation with expectant Management Guidelines. In order to ensure understanding of the BVG support payment aim for grasslands biodiversity - in 2016, the RSS (Rural Support Service) plan to organize training "Grassland habitat management methods" aimed at implementers preparing “grassland agro-environmental plan”. The existence of the plan will become mandatory for the next programming periods. Grassland management plan will be determined by natural environmental quality indicators - at the level of the individual farm areas.
